In Order to Slow the Rise of Fascism, Donald Trump Must be Prosecuted

Americans, along with the world, are still reeling from Wednesday’s events. The United States government came under attack from Trump-supporting right-wing terrorists, as armed people donning “Make America Great Again” apparel attempted to halt the certification of the 2020 presidential election by seizing the US Capitol. The violent attack was incited by Trump himself, who gave an incendiary, hate filled, politically toxic speech to the very crowd that then stormed the Capitol. The President of the United States, standing in the heart of Washington D.C., encouraged his supporters to “walk down Pennsylvania Avenue,” to “give them the pride and boldness they need to take back our country.” Trump also said that “you’ll never take back our country with weakness, you have to show strength.” At the same rally, before Trump spoke, his personal lawyer and adviser Rudy Giuliani gave explicitly agressive remarks, saying that it was time to have a “trial by combat.”
